HOW TO LEAVE A GIFT IN YOUR WILL.

This is sometimes also known as making a bequest.

By leaving a gift in your Will, you will make a long-lasting difference in the lives of vulnerable young people cared for through St Laurence House.

Why St Laurence House?

St Laurence House supports young people through providing safe residential accommodation, ongoing case management and intensive programs to help develop living skills, health and wellbeing, social inclusion and trauma informed therapeutic care.

What will my gift provide St Laurence House?

Your gift will assist us to continue this vital work and programs for our clients to help them become their best selves, and to live independently in the future.

How do I go about providing a ‘gift’ to St Laurence House in my Will?

You may already have a Will but would like to leave a gift to St Laurence House. You can do this by making a simple addition to your existing Will. In legal terms this is called a codicil.

If you do not have a Will, you can simply include a gift/bequest when you create one.

Whatever your circumstances, it is always best to seek professional legal advice to ensure your will secures your wishes for your family, loved ones and other beneficiaries.

What typical  questions would my legal representative ask me?

Here are some of the questions that your legal representative may ask you when leaving a gift to  St Laurence House in your will:

Do you want to gift:

  • A percentage of your estate.
  • The residue of your estate. After you have taken care of loved ones, you can gift to St Laurence House the whole or part of what remains of your estate.
  • A specific gift in your Will. You can give a specific amount of money or items such as shares, paintings, or property.
  • A gift through a perpetual trust to provide long term and ongoing support.
  • You might also want to leave a gift for a specific purpose, to be used for something close to your heart, perhaps a legacy in your own name.
  • Your solicitor may also require the following details:
    • ABN: 79101274350
    • Registered Charity Number: CFN 14097

How would I ‘word’ my wishes to gift St Laurence House in my Will?

Your legal representative will help you with the wording, but some options might include:

“I give and bequeath to St Laurence House, of PO Box 20, Kingsford, NSW 2032 Australia:

  • [……] percent of my whole estate, or
  • the residue of my estate, or
  • [……] percent of the residue of my estate, or
  • the specific sum of $[……], or
  • property or items [insert details], or
  • other [insert details]

to be used for its general purposes.”
